I still have mixed feelings about this book.

It feels impossible to identify with or cheer for him. Les Thanatonautes is first in a five-part series. This book is similar to “The empire of the Angels” because it is continued by it thanatonqutes it is both about death. For a fiction this long, an awful amount of time is spent describing idle, meaningless events.

The fiction part of the story is cut by real passages and tidbits about myths and legends from all over the world. Moral dillemas are being tossed aside without a thought, extinguishing what could be the strongest asset of this story.

To be fair, I really don’t think I am part of this book’s target audience. I didn’t want to leave it unfinished, but there was no catharsis nor amusement involved; only short moments of enjoyment most of them featuring Raoul and satisfaction from being able to shut it forever.

The story ends when there they see something behind the “mountain of light” and get astonished by it. The analogy with Australia is even more complete, because the pioneers here are also prisoners, but the stakes are incredibly higher.
