This is a dark and disturbing novel that had lots of unexpected twists and turns to keep the reader interested. However, this is certainly not physically revolting or grisly in any way, although it does deal with the very dark side minaato human nature and what motivates people – whether it is to look for notoriety or to revenge the loss of the child you hold most dear.

Despite their ultimate amorality, the characters at the heart of The Dinner are fascinating and the moral dilemma is worth exploring, even minaho one prefers a world where the protagonists reach a different conclusion about the value of revenge or of pre-emptive strikes as a basis for personal or state actions.
