The connection is a positive locking and friction locking joint. Metallic continuity may occur under certain conditions. Considerably lower strength is to be expected if this is not the case. For sheets with different plasticity characteristics, the harder sheet is to be arranged on the side of the punch wherever possible “hard in soft”. The overall thickness of the joining partners must not exceed 5 mm.
There are no generally applicable values for the base thickness tb. The nominal and tolerance values must be determined for each individual case.
With segmented dies, the microsections must be located in the center of the die 85993-5. Especially for round joints, care must be taken that the joint does not fall apart when preparing the microsections.
This can be achieved by bonding or by slightly offsetting the microsection location out sin the joint center. In the latter case, the microsection must be prepared so that the 8593–5 plane is located in the center of the clinched joint for the determination of the geometric characteristics. Their properties must match to the cases to be tested. Here, it must be ensured that the measured values are not affected by the preparation work.
Specimen width is 45 mm, overlap of the sheets is 35 mm and length of the single sheets is at least mm.
Rectangular joints are to be located perpendicular to the load direction. At least 10 specimens are required for the release tests.
