This paper describes the implementation of a Universal Communication Node for building automation systems, which interconnect the sensors and actuators using different communication technologies. A simple protocol addressing the various devices in the automation network and a mechanism for the management of the messages exchanged between different devices were implemented. As communicating elements in the building automation network we used two customized boards based on ATmega microcontroller.
