James and Nuala are both sarcastic and quick-witted. Gallad she has been without a human for too long and the desire she feels for James is too strong, he shines to bright, she has to have him.

Can’t recommend this one. A book with lots to like, but enough flaws to make it worth a borrow, not a buy.
It still astounds me how magtie author can write about music and have the reader…well, hear it. And there’s nothing that attracts faeries more than music. Ballad tells its story through the alternating points of view of James and a dangerous faerie muse called Nuala, who has chosen James as her next conquest.
James’ complex emotions surrounding Dee and his involvement with the faery world added further dimensions to the story but it felt like something was lacking. I thought she was good for him. Composing beautiful music together unexpectedly leads to mutual admiration and love. It’s a completely different story with a lot of new characters none of whom appealed to me. I love your writing, I love your stiefvaer, I love your books. It is a beautifully composed ode to longing, hope, joy and love — that just happens balad include a few homicdal faeries.
It alternates between James and Nuala. Be forewarned that if you read this book right after Lament you might have unfulfilled expectations.
James is partly rebellious but also partly nerd. I read Shiver last stifvater after Myra McEntire raved about it repeatedly. It’s not a page turner like Lament and it’s not poetic like Shiver, but still it was a decent story.
Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie
In the beginning, she was creepy and targeting adorable James. Nuala can definitely dish it right back to him. I have to say that they both dish up a healthy dose of snarkiness and I love it.
But with Hallowe’en approaching, Nuala knows she can’t afford to get close to anyone. I don’t want to think about this too much, I just want to pour it out. When you’re done reading one of her books, you are ready to make the person laying next to you happy.
The plot itself was lovely and captivating. James’s snarkiness and cockiness are classic there’s just something I like about snarky guys.
This is her last year. But Ballad still contains her lyric prose, and better yet, a truly unique narrative voice. The story alternates between James and Nuala.
